Meal Prep is the Secret to Eating Right. Changing Poor Eating Habits, the Secret to Weight Loss
It’s no secret that meal prep and planning is a huge part of every transformation story.
As a Health Coach and Personal Trainer, I’ve had the opportunity to work with hundreds of women on creating lifelong healthy habits and trust me, the majority of us struggle with nutrition… Even me.
The good news is that as scary as meal planning and prep may seem, it’s totally doable and totally worth it – you just need a couple of trusty tricks up your sleeve.
Keep reading for all the tips you need to become a LadyBoss Meal Prep Master!
1. Schedule time for meal prep.
Fail to plan, plan to fail – it didn’t become a well known saying for no reason. Choose a day to get your planning and prepping done each week and calendar it in. Remember that setting yourself up for a successful week by prepping your meals in advance is a form of self-care!
Make your health a priority and before you know it, your weekly meal prep will become a habit.
2. Get support for Meal Prep.
Finding the right support group can be fun and rewarding!
Having a like-minded network of people around you is an important aspect of your journey and can also help keep you motivated. Sharing your wins and challenges with others is a great way to stay accountable and hearing other’s stories and experiences can be an inspiration for you as you continue through your journey.
The LadyBoss Facebook community is a great place to build relationships and get incredible support.
3. Grocery shop like a boss.
Keeping your fridge and pantry stocked with healthy essentials will keep you out of the excuse-making zone.
It can be easy to put off meal prep or forego a healthy meal in place of an off-path snack if you don’t have the right foods and ingredients on hand. Keep your shopping experience intentional and focused by going in with a list.
Keep out of temptation’s way by staying on the outer aisles and opting for fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats, and whole-grain bread and pasta.
4. Spice it up!
Eating healthy has a bad wrap for being boring and bland, but it doesn’t have to be that way!
Having a variety of seasonings and condiments available can give you plenty of options that can transform a meal from just “ok” to freaking amazing!
Some LadyBoss approved options include pepper, Mrs. Dash seasonings, all fresh herbs and spices, mustard, and salsa.
5. Have The Right Tools for Meal Prep.
Having an organized kitchen with the right tools can make all the difference in making meal prep quicker and more enjoyable.
Do a quick audit of your kitchen and make sure you have everything you need for successful meal prep. Some of my favorite must-haves are:
-
- A food processor and/or blender.
- Measuring cups and spoons.
- A good cutting board and sharp knives.
- Cookie sheets for bulk prep.
- Crockpot or Instapot.
- Don’t forget about storage containers to help keep your prepped meals properly portioned and fresh!
6. Play with blocks.
When prepping your meals and snacks, it’s important to make sure they are well-balanced and contain each block of nutrition.
When working with clients, I’ve found that one of the biggest roadblocks to consistent meal prep is not feeling confident with creating healthy meal options. The LadyBoss Blocking Method keeps meal prep simple by taking the guesswork out of meal planning and making sure you’re getting in ample amounts of protein, carbs, healthy fats, fruits, and veggies.
See just how easy implementing the blocking method is by trying the LadyBoss Pocket Personal Trainer free for seven days.
7. Bulk meal prep.
Not a fan of leftovers? No problem!
You can prep ahead without cooking! The prepping process can be the most time-consuming part of the process, so doing it in advance will help make mealtime a breeze! Some of my favorite prep hacks are:
-
- Chop veggies in advance and refrigerate until time to cook.
- Portion out your lean protein and marinate/season in advance.
- Use convenient sides that can be used on the spot, for example, boil-in-a bag rice and quinoa, pre-packaged salad kits, pre-drained tuna packets.
8. Make it fun!
Eating healthy doesn’t mean that every meal has to consist of chicken and broccoli!
It will be next to impossible to make a complete lifestyle change if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing at least a little bit. And, that includes the foods you eat. Find healthy alternatives to foods you love by recreating your favorite recipes and use the blocking method to help guide you in your choices.
And, don’t skip your cheat meal. You earned it!
9. Track Your Meal Prepping.
Successful meal prep week in and week out hinges on finding a routine that works for you. The more streamlined the routine, the more likely you are to stick to it!
Keep things convenient by keeping a record of favorite recipes to make your meal planning a snap!
10. Get help Meal Prepping.
Don’t let lack of time, knowledge, or confidence get in the way of making healthy choices.
If it is a hurdle you just can’t get over, enlist the help of your significant other, a friend, or even a coach to help you with meal prep! When there is a will, there is always a way!
Meal planning and prepping is an essential part of your health and wellness journey. While it may seem overwhelming at first, don’t give up!
