Have you ever heard someone say, “I love working out!” and thought OK, she’s totally lying. Trust me, you are not alone if you don’t know how to make exercise fun.
But pause for a second and really consider how much your health would change if exercise was a highlight instead of a chore. No, really stop for a second and picture a life where you get have fun exercises to do at the gym or find fun exercises to do at home. Looks pretty nice, huh?
We let ourselves feel overwhelmed by thinking we have to have the perfect workout gear or spend hours in the gym completing a set workout routine.
When we do exercise, we tend to do the same type of workout over and over. That leaves us feeling sore and depleted the next day.
Rest assured, exercise does not have to be a chore. We are about to delve into how to make exercise fun. So, buckle up, sister.
Remember that thinking negatively about exercise stops a lot of women from enjoying burning calories in ways that can be fun, exciting, and uplifting. It’s just a matter of finding fun workout programs!
Does it surprise you to hear that, according to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, less than 5% of American adults get 30 minutes of exercise a day. LESS THAN 5%!
And we wonder why so many of us feel exhausted, unhealthy, and unhappy about the way we look and feel?! If you can figure out how to start exercising when you hate it, then that’s the first step to finding fun workout programs that you will actually L-O-V-E.
Even if you aren’t a pro, you can STILL learn how to like exercise, as long as you find a workout routine that provides health benefits and helps you burn calories to meet your fitness goals. You’ll even be able to find fun workout programs that will help with your weight loss, too.
Once you find a routine you love, you will be far more likely to keep yourself healthy and improve the quality of your life. You are going to learn how to enjoy working out!
Your new routine can include fun exercises to do at home OR fun exercises to do at the gym (or both)!
Exercise Benefits
There are SO many health benefits to exercise… from improved mood, ENERGY, and memory to increased circulation and muscle tone. Most of us understand that staying in shape is good for you.
Check out these exercise benefits:
- Lowered risk of heart disease
- Prevention of certain types of cancer
- Lowered risk of osteoporosis
- Prevention of weight gain and type 2 diabetes
- Improved muscle and lung function
- Improved sleep quality
Regular exercise also can decrease anxiety, chronic illnesses, and prevent depression. Working out also releases endorphins, our bodies’ stress-fighters, leaving us feeling happier, research suggests.
In other words, working out can actually feel AMAZING, and it can even be fun. Learning how to make exercise fun can be a crucial moment in your life.
Once you have a nutrition plan in place, so you can ensure your body is getting the fuel and nutrients that it needs (and don’t worry, we can help with that), you should choose what type of training you’ll be doing.
You can do anything you think sounds fun, from dance to yoga, jogging/walking to strength training. The choices are endless, really.
Start by making a list of exercises you think you’d love, even if the list is just things that you want to try out for the very first time. And you don’t have to go to the gym. You can workout at home without any special equipment.
When you’re trying to figure out how to like exercise, it’s good to try out different approaches. Let’s give you some ideas!
Yoga
Whether you like a slow and gentle type of exercise or one where you push your body’s limits with each and every session, there is something for you in the practice of yoga.
The meaning of “yoga” is union: in which the mind and body can be aligned, and you can quiet your busy mind while stretching your body as you breathe in a controlled and thoughtful manner.
Yoga makes a perfect wakeup exercise. It also can be done during the day (or before bed) to clear away stress, anxiety, and increase appreciation for the body (no matter what stage you’re in on your fitness journey).
There are many different types (or schools) of yoga. There are different classes you can take, videos you can follow online, or simple instructions that can be printed out to be done in the privacy of your own living room.
Yoga is truly for anyone and everyone and it will give you some fun exercises to do at home. I do all kinds of yoga. The discipline depends on my mood and what my body needs at the time.
Some days I use yoga to clear my mind and help with my flexibility. Other days, you can find me in the weight room throwing yoga moves in-between strength sets. Some may find it strange, but it totally works for me.
Strength Training
If you think strength training doesn’t include fun exercises to do at home, you might be surprised. When you have the right guidance (something the LadyBoss® Personal Results Coaching program can help you with), you will have all the tools and support you need to build your strength (and build a sexy body) like a LadyBossⓇ!
So, what exactly is strength training? Simple answer: You exercise your muscles using an opposing force (like free weights) to increase your strength.
If that doesn’t sound fun to you, you probably just need a great personal goal to work towards (like looking amazing in that little black dress) or an amazing playlist to ensure you can get all your frustrations and stress out in a really healthy way.
After all, we ALL need an outlet for life’s tough days!
I love throwing around some iron! It’s therapeutic for me and I’m sure my family agrees that they would rather have me lift weights than take out my aggression on them.
With strength training, there are fun exercises to do at the gym, too, if you like getting out of the house for your workout.
After coaching for close to 18 years, I have found that most women are intimidated by strength training. When they start learning about how to do it, their confidence skyrockets and they begin to love this exercise discipline.
It’s key to find a supportive fitness expert to make sure that you’re doing the right exercises, doing them properly, and keeping a plan in place that will support your overall health and fitness goals.
LadyBossⓇ has all the tools you need to succeed right now in our LadyBoss® Personal Results Coaching program.
Dance
Dance is one of the best ways you can make exercise fun anywhere you are. Dance can be fun to do at home. Or, you can check out your gym or another facility for a variety of dance classes.
If the thought of a class intimidates you, you can totally watch a YouTube video or even just freeform dance in the comfort of your kitchen, while you do the dishes.
Dancing helps to pass the time and to make everyday tasks more enjoyable. I’m not sure if you can really make cleaning toilets more fun, but… music and dancing do help.
There are NO rules here: only that you have fun and burn some calories doing it!
Some popular types of dance that burn a lot of calories include salsa, hip hop, belly dancing, pole dancing (something I totally want to try!), ballroom dancing and ballet (and many more).
Feel free to bring a friend or your romantic partner and get them involved in a class! It can be a great bonding time!
Cross-Training
I am also a HUGE fan of cross-training. For me, that may mean Stand Up Paddleboarding, riding my bike, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, wake surfing, golfing.
Basically… anything that gets me outside and gets my body moving. I mean, why create all this amazing strength and stamina in your body and then fail to use it for something fun! As long as you are moving and sweating, it counts!
