Healthy Party Snack Ideas That Won’t Make You Feel Gross

The party snacks, more often than not, are more memorable than the Super Bowl itself!

How many Super Bowl parties will you be invited to this year?

This year, I’m deciding where to go based on who will be serving creative,  healthy appetizers

Easy party snacks don’t have to be boring or fat-laden so you and your guests feel gross for the rest of the evening.

Check out these recipes that will change your mind about making easy appetizers and finger food to serve your Super Bowl party guests this year.

The naked buffalo tenders are my personal favorite.

Oh, I like the zucchini chips too.

And the lettuce wraps…

Who am I kidding? I like ‘em all!

And these recipes are so tasty and healthy, you can eat them all.

Healthy Appetizers

This year leave the post-game day guilt where it belongs, on the field.

It’s a good bet there will be two opportunities for your mouth to be the source of your guilt on game day.  Either you’ll be stuffing it full of crap or you’ll be talking trash.

And while I don’t have tips for you to clean up your team-loving, opponent-jeering trash talk, I can help you clean up what’s going in your mouth by putting a few healthier options on the buffet table.

From lettuce wraps to buffalo wings, to zucchini chips, we’ve got you covered!

Cocktail Meatballs

Cocktail meatballs in a sauce are a staple of the game day smorgasbord. And there are a few easy ways to make a healthier version of this party favorite!

Here are four easy ways to make any cocktail meatball recipe healthier:

  1. Choose ground turkey which is 99% lean meat. Ground pork is 90% lean!
  2. Next, hide some veggies inside (shredded carrots are great for texture and color).
  3. Don’t skimp on the spices. Fat doesn’t have to equal flavor!
  4. Slow cook the cocktail meatballs in the crockpot and serve the sauce on the side.

  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice

  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground turkey egg, water, bread crumbs, and minced onion. Roll into small meatballs.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, turning once.
  • In a large saucepan over low heat, blend the jelly, chili sauce, and lemon juice.
  • Serve warm with meatballs.

Lettuce Wraps

Lettuce wraps are super fun and versatile party snacks! With just a few simple ingredients you could put an entire meat/cheese platter to shame.

The basics: Lettuce boat/leaf that you will load up with lean meats, fresh veggies, and a low-calorie sauce or dressing. Get creative coming up with your next family-friendly lettuce wrap recipe.

My favorite lettuce wraps recipe is the turkey lettuce wraps found in the LadyBoss Pocket Personal Trainer.

Zucchini chips

Doritos may put out some of the best game day commercials, but you don’t have to be home holding the bag when you watch the ads to enjoy them.

Make your own chips! Just slice, slather, sprinkle, scorch and serve…that’s fun to say! Slice zucchini thinly, slather on some coconut oil, sprinkle with your flavored seasoning, scorch (I had to think of some word for bake that started with an S … so stay with me on this one) until golden brown in your oven on broil, and then serve.

Zucchini chips. It’s as easy as Slice. Slather. Sprinkle. Scorch. Serve. These chips will leave you and all your guests healthy and SSSSsssatisfied!

You can find this recipe and hundreds more in the LadyBoss® Pocket Personal Trainer!

Zucchini Chips Recipe

Zucchini Chips

Prep Time 5 mins
Cook Time 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 large zucchinis
  • 2 tbsp organic coconut oil

Instructions

  • Set the oven to broil. Spray the baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Cut zucchini into small circle slices (the thinner you slice them, the more your zucchini will end up like “chips”).
  • Melt 2 tablespoons coconut oil in the microwave.
  • Place zucchini slices on the baking sheet. Brush coconut oil over slices or drizzle evenly.
  • Broil in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until “chips” are crispy to your liking.

Buffalo Wings

buffalo wings

Is it really game day without wings? My vote says no.

So here’s the skinny on keeping your wings healthy:

  1. Go naked. Skinless chicken tenderloins are excellent alternatives to your typical wings in any buffalo wings recipe.
  2. Stay naked. Instead of rolling your tenderloins in dressings/breading before cooking, leave them plain when you bake them.
  3. Dress to impress. Buffalo wings calories that are typically associated with being “bad” come from the breading and sauces they are smothered in. So don’t dress yours up like a slob.

And when you dress to impress, you don’t cover it up with a frumpy poncho. So, go easy on the buffalo wings dip. You don’t need to drape a ranch poncho over a perfectly baked buffalo chicken tenderloin!

Baked Buffalo Wings

Baked Buffalo Wings

Prep Time 5 mins
Cook Time 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 20 skinless chicken tenderloins
  • ½ c buffalo sauce like Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wings Sauce

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, and lightly grease with cooking spray. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Place chicken onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until chicken is no longer pink and is slightly crispy on the outside, about 15 minutes. Turn chicken over after 7-8 minutes so chicken cooks evenly.
  • When chicken is done, spread with a thin layer of buffalo sauce and then return to the oven for just a few minutes to bake it on.
